Frequently Asked Questions
Is my transaction data stored securely?
Yes. Extracted trade records (date, code, platform, quantity, price, brokerage, currency, FX rate) are securely stored in your account database. Raw CSV files are never stored. When you upload a file, ShareTax parses it in memory and immediately discards the raw bytes.
What if I have missing buys or negative parcel warnings?
If a sell appears in your statements without a preceding buy order, ShareTax flags it under Trade Reconciliation on the Dashboard. You can easily resolve it by importing earlier statement years, recording a stock split/corporate action, or adding a manual opening balance.
Can I use these figures directly on my Australian tax return?
The ShareTax PDF and Excel reports are structured to align directly with the ATO CGT Schedule items (Total Current Year Capital Gains, Net Capital Gain, Carried Forward Losses). However, ShareTax is a calculation tool, not a tax agent. We recommend reviewing outputs with a qualified tax accountant before lodgement.
What platforms and brokers are supported natively?
Native support is provided for CommSec, Stake AU, Stake US, Betashares, Coinbase, Swyftx, MetaMask (Ethereum, Polygon, Arbitrum, Base, Optimism), Phantom (Solana), and Jupiter. All other brokers and exchanges can be imported via our Generic CSV Template or converted using our built-in AI Conversion Prompts.
What happens to my data if I cancel or delete my account?
For registered accounts, data is retained for 7 years to satisfy mandatory ATO tax record-keeping requirements, after which it is permanently purged. Guest sessions are deleted after 24 hours.

How do the Free Tier limits work?
ShareTax provides a generous free tier allowing you to manage up to 2,500 trades and export historical tax reports completely free.
What counts towards the 2,500 limit? The limit exclusively counts Trades (e.g., Buys, Sells, Transfers, Crypto Swaps, and Crypto Yields like Airdrops or Staking).
What doesn't count? Traditional stock dividends and distributions (Income Events) do not count towards your trade limit. If you are a long-term investor, you will not be pushed into a paid tier just because your holdings generate regular dividend payments. Crypto yields, however, are treated as blockchain transactions and do count toward the limit.
